Kampala, Uganda: Government authorities have moved to close New Best Hotel in Busega over alleged involvement in pornography-related activities, signalling a wider crackdown on establishments linked to explicit content.
The warning was issued by the Pornography Control Committee, chaired by Ms Annet Kezaabu, which said the hotel has repeatedly been cautioned over reports connecting it to the production or facilitation of obscene material.
“We have engaged and warned the management several times. If there is no change, stronger enforcement action will be taken, including possible closure,” the committee said in a statement.
Officials indicated that despite multiple engagements with management, concerns have persisted regarding activities at the facility.
New Best Hotel has previously been cited in reports as an establishment allegedly facilitating paid sexual activity on-site, raising red flags among regulators.
Authorities say the case forms part of a broader enforcement campaign targeting businesses suspected of promoting or enabling pornography.

The committee noted that such environments are often linked to wider social risks, including exploitation and exposure of minors to harmful content.
The latest action comes amid intensified government efforts to regulate both physical establishments and digital platforms associated with explicit material.
Parallel enforcement has been ongoing by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), which recently ordered telecom operators to block hundreds of pornographic websites.
Authorities say the enforcement aligns with existing legal frameworks governing morality and public decency, as well as the National Ethical Values Policy.
Government has reiterated that individuals and businesses must comply with national laws, warning that violations could result in closure, prosecution, or other penalties.
Officials added that enforcement will be applied uniformly across the country, with more inspections expected.
