Tororo, Uganda: A 32-year-old cleaner has died after being knocked by a vehicle driven by a Uganda Revenue Authority official inside URA premises in Tororo Municipality.

The fatal incident occurred on Wednesday at around 11:00am at the URA Service Centre in Tororo.

Police identified the deceased as Nambozo Sarah, a cleaner attached to the facility and a resident of Tororo Municipality.

According to Bukedi South Regional Police spokesperson IP Mugwe J Moses, the victim was struck while cleaning the veranda within the URA compound.

The vehicle involved, a black Subaru Forester registration number UA 754DC, was being driven by Janervive Inapat, a 50-year-old URA official residing at the URA quarters in Tororo.

Police say the victim died on the spot with preliminary findings pointing to careless driving as the likely cause of the accident.

Officers visited and documented the scene before conveying the body to Tororo Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

The vehicle was towed to Tororo Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles, as investigations continue.

Authorities have since urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly within institutional compounds, to prevent similar incidents.

URA was yet to issue a public statement on the incident and efforts to reach out to for a comment went futile by press time on Thursday morning.
