Kampala, Uganda: Business magnate Dr Sudhir Ruparelia and wife Jyotsna Ruparelia, penned down a deeply emotional tribute on Saturday, marking one year since the tragic death of their son, Rajiv Ruparelia, reflecting on grief, love, and the enduring legacy he left behind.
In a heartfelt message titled “A Year in the Light of Rajiv’s Memory,” the Ruparelia family described the profound pain of loss while expressing gratitude to those who stood by them in their darkest moments.
“To lose a son is to carry a silence the world cannot hear, a quiet, enduring ache that time does not erase, but gently reshapes,” the tribute, seen exclusively by DailyExpress, reads in part capturing the depth of a family still navigating life after unimaginable loss.
Rajiv, a prominent Ugandan businessman and celebrated rally driver, died in a tragic accident that sent shockwaves across the country, drawing tributes from political leaders, the business community, and motorsport fans alike.
A Life of Energy, Passion, and Impact
Known for his vibrant personality and entrepreneurial drive, Rajiv was a central figure in the Ruparelia Group’s operations, contributing significantly to the growth of the family’s business empire spanning real estate, hospitality, education, and finance.
Beyond boardrooms, he was widely admired in Uganda’s motorsport circles, where his passion for rally driving earned him recognition as one of the country’s most exciting drivers.
His sudden passing left a void not only within his family but also among peers and young entrepreneurs who looked up to him as a symbol of ambition and modern Ugandan enterprise.
In their Saturday tribute, Sudhir and Jyotsna emphasized that grief has not faded but has instead evolved into a quiet, constant presence, one that is carried through memories, shared stories, and acts of kindness inspired by Rajiv’s life.

“In that silence, the bond we share with our son remains unbroken, alive in every cherished memory, every story retold, and every act of kindness inspired by his life,” they wrote.
The family also extended gratitude to friends, well-wishers, and the wider Ugandan community for their prayers and continued support, acknowledging the collective role played in keeping Rajiv’s memory alive.
Memorial Activities to Honour Rajiv
The Ruparelia family will tomorrow, Sunday, May 3, lead a series of commemorative activities as they join Ugandans in marking one year since the passing of Rajiv Ruparelia.
The day will begin with a prosthetic limbs outreach camp at Mulago National Referral Hospital, an initiative aimed at restoring mobility and dignity to beneficiaries in need—reflecting Rajiv’s spirit of giving and impact-driven legacy.
Later, a memorial drive will be held in his honour, tracing a symbolic route from RR Towers to Speke Resort Munyonyo. The drive is expected to attract members of the motorsport fraternity, friends, and admirers, celebrating Rajiv’s passion for cars and rally driving.
The twin activities blend remembrance with purpose, honouring a life remembered not only for its energy and ambition but also for its enduring impact on others.
A Legacy That Lives On
Over the past year, Rajiv’s legacy has remained visible through the continued operations of the Ruparelia Group and the enduring admiration from Uganda’s business and sports communities.
His life, though cut short, is remembered for its impact, marked by innovation, boldness, and a commitment to growth. “Though a year has passed, our remembrance is not bound by time. It lives on, steadfast, beautiful, and eternal,” the family concluded.
