Kampala, Uganda: The Ruparelia Family, led by Ugandan Business magnate, Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, and friends, have rallied Ugandans to turn up in large numbers for a city-wide memorial drive in honour of the late Rajiv Ruparelia this Sunday.
The tribute, branded “Remembering RR,” is expected to draw thousands across Kampala on May 3, 2026, in a powerful show of unity to celebrate Rajiv’s life, influence, and enduring legacy.
Leading the call, Dr Sudhir expressed deep appreciation to the motorsport fraternity and organisers for honouring his son through a collective national tribute.
“To the rally team and management. I truly appreciate what you are doing in Rajiv’s memory. Organising this memorial event in his honour means a lot to us, and we will all be there to celebrate his life together,” he said.
Sudhir’s daughter, Sheena Ruparelia, echoed the message, praising the growing momentum behind the tribute and the solidarity shown by Ugandans. “I would like to appreciate the entire fraternity for keeping Rajiv’s memory alive. He would have been so proud to see everyone come together like this. We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday,” she said.
Organisers say the memorial activities will begin with a prosthetic leg donation drive at Mulago Hospital, aimed at restoring mobility to beneficiaries in a gesture aligned with Rajiv’s commitment to uplifting lives.
The highlight of the day will be a memorial drive setting off from RR Pearl Tower, with motorists and supporters expected to participate in a symbolic procession through Kampala, reflecting Rajiv’s passion for motorsport and his vibrant personality.
A candle lighting ceremony at Speke Resort Munyonyo will close the day, offering a moment of reflection as friends, family, and supporters honour a legacy defined by generosity, energy, and connection.
Stuart Kimera, a friend and longtime motorsport of the late Rajiv, described the tribute as more than a remembrance, calling it a celebration of a life that brought people together across different communities.
“We are ready for Sunday as we come together to celebrate the life of a legend—the maestro, an icon, a hero to many, and a unifying figure in the motorsport fraternity,” Kimera said. “We celebrate a legacy that continues to live on through all of us, and we invite everyone to be part of this great gathering.”
With mobilisation already gaining momentum across social and community networks, organisers have issued a final call for nationwide participation. “Let us come out in large numbers to support this cause and celebrate Rajiv’s life. He was someone who brought people together, and we thank you for continuing that spirit,” Kimera added.
The event is expected to attract a wide cross-section of society, from business leaders and motorsport enthusiasts to ordinary citizens, reflecting the broad impact Rajiv had on Uganda’s social and economic landscape.
