Kampala, Uganda: The Ruparelia Foundation, a philanthropic arm of the Ruparelia Group Conglomerate, has announced it will host a nationwide free prosthetic leg donation drive at Mulago National Referral Hospital, in memory of late businessman Rajiv Ruparelia.
The initiative follows the success of the Rajiv Memorial Free Eye Camp in Bukedea, where over 500 surgeries were conducted, and thousands received free treatment.
The three-day humanitarian camp, scheduled for May 1–3, 2026, aims to restore mobility and dignity to vulnerable Ugandans living with limb loss, building on the legacy of compassion and service associated with Rajiv.
According to officials at the Ruparelia Foundation, the new campaign is part of a broader mission to transform lives through practical interventions that honour Rajiv’s vision.
Under the theme “Restoring Hope. Changing Lives,” the prosthetic drive will provide free artificial limbs to individuals who would otherwise be unable to afford the costly service.
Prosthetic legs are customized artificial limbs designed to replace missing lower limbs, enhancing mobility and function using lightweight materials like carbon fiber, titanium, and aluminum.

Partnership with Mulago
The programme is being implemented in partnership with Mulago National Referral Hospital, bringing together specialised medical teams to ensure professional fitting and rehabilitation support.
Officials say the initiative will go beyond medical assistance to help beneficiaries regain independence, confidence, and the ability to participate in economic activities.
Access to prosthetic limbs remains limited in Uganda due to high costs and inadequate specialised services, leaving many amputees unable to reintegrate fully into society.
The foundation says the upcoming camp is expected to attract beneficiaries from across the country, particularly those from underserved communities.
The prosthetic leg campaign marks a continuation of the foundation’s expanding footprint in community healthcare, youth empowerment, and social welfare programmes. By shifting from vision restoration to mobility support, the initiative reinforces a growing model of holistic humanitarian outreach.
