Tororo, Uganda: Police in Tororo District have arrested a man in connection with the suspected murder of a 51-year-old woman following an alleged domestic dispute in Nyangole ‘B’ Zone, Nyangole Parish, Nyangole Sub-county.

The deceased has been identified as Nyafwono Margret, a peasant and resident of Nyangole ‘B’ Zone. The suspect, Olowo Steven, who also resides in the same village, is being held at Tororo Central Police Station (CPS) as investigations continue.

According to police, the incident occurred during the night leading to July 20, 2026, and was reported by Hon. Oketch Bernard, the LC I Chairperson of Nyangole ‘B’ Zone.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that Nyafwono had returned home from a drinking establishment when Olowo allegedly went to her residence demanding money he claimed she owed him.

Police allege that the suspect threatened the deceased, warning that she would “see what he was capable of doing” if she failed to pay. The exchange was reportedly overheard by the deceased’s juvenile granddaughter, Asinde Hilder Alice.

Investigators further allege that Nyafwono opened the door before the suspect pulled her outside, where the two reportedly struggled. After the confrontation, the suspect is said to have dragged her back into the house.
