Kampala, Uganda: The Senior Presidential Advisor and Manager of the Office of the NRM National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has pledged continued support to vendors in Nakawa Market, urging them to take advantage of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s new term in office to improve their livelihoods and eradicate household poverty.
Hajjat Namyalo made the remarks on Wednesday evening while officiating at the finals of a football tournament organised by vendors of Nakawa Market at Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, Kampala.
Addressing thousands of vendors, football fans and local leaders, the ONC Manager encouraged the business community to actively participate in government wealth creation programmes, saying President Museveni’s renewed mandate offers Ugandans another opportunity to transform their household incomes and achieve economic independence.
“Getting out of poverty in Museveni’s new Kisanja is mandatory,” Hajjat Namyalo said.
The ONC Boss called on market vendors to remain united and embrace initiatives that promote economic empowerment, community development and self-reliance.
The football tournament, which began late last month, concluded with Kasoli FC emerging champions. Hajjat Namyalo rewarded the winners with UGX1 million in cash, while Nyanya FC received UGX500,000 after finishing runners-up, and Nyama FC walked away with UGX300,000 as second runners-up. Cassava Vendors FC were also recognised with UGX200,000.
The ONC Manager commended the organisers for using sport as a platform to strengthen unity, teamwork and peaceful coexistence among traders, noting that such initiatives play an important role in promoting social cohesion while identifying and nurturing sporting talent.
She reaffirmed the Office of the National Chairman’s commitment to supporting grassroots initiatives that empower ordinary Ugandans and complement the government’s broader socio-economic transformation agenda.
The event was attended by Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs Minsa Kabanda, alongside market leaders, vendors and supporters who witnessed the tournament finale.
Hajjat Namyalo has in recent years intensified grassroots mobilisation through the Office of the National Chairman, encouraging Ugandans, particularly youth, women and informal sector workers, to embrace government wealth creation programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga and other initiatives aimed at improving household incomes and reducing poverty.
