Kasangati, Uganda — Police in Kasangati Division are investigating the alleged murder of two-year-old Kyomuhando Dartiva Rosaries after her body was recovered from a maize plantation in Kyetume, Gayaza, following her disappearance earlier this week.
According to a police statement released Thursday evening, the child’s mother, Atukwatse Lillian, reported her missing on October 27, 2026, after she disappeared while playing with neighbouring children.
On the morning of October 28, a ransom note demanding Shs10 million was reportedly discovered at the mother’s gate, prompting further investigations into the child’s disappearance. Police subsequently arrested two suspects in connection with the incident.
One of the suspects, identified as Muhumuza Joshua, a pedicurist, reportedly confessed to the crime and led investigators to the maize plantation in Kyetume, where the child’s body was recovered.
Police said Muhumuza also identified his alleged accomplice, Amusuguti Florence, who has since been arrested. During a search, investigators recovered a mobile phone from Muhumuza. According to police, the phone contained a mobile line allegedly used to demand the ransom.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Muhumuza was known to the child and her mother. He had previously worked for the mother as a pedicurist, and his residence was separated from the family’s home by a perimeter wall.
The child’s body was conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination to establish further details surrounding her death.
Police said investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing and that further updates would be provided as more information becomes available.
