Gov’t to arrest Ugandans using VPN to illegally access social media

KAMPALA, UGANDA: – Government through the ministry of ICT and National has warned that all Ugandans “illegally accessing social media using VPN risk being arrested.

According to the State Minister peter Ogwang, all Ugandans are supposed to be currently off social media since it is still blocked inspite the lifting of internet shutdown countrywide.

Ogwang says government is concerned that Ugandans are still on social media yet the it blocked access to these platforms since January 13th ahead of last week’s polls.

The ICT Minister explains that the internet shutdown was informed by opposition politicians who had created fake tally centres to relay fake election results.

Earlier, government Spokesperson Ofwono Opondo said the internet was blocked in National interest.
