Govt to accord Late MP Mathias Kasamba an official burial

KYAKWANZI – President Yoweri Museveni has ordered an official burial for the late Hon. Mathias Kasamba, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party director for mobilization and cadre identification.

Kasamba who was also one of Uganda’s representatives in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) in Tanzania died on Tuesday night (April 27, 2021) at Nakesero Hospital in Kampala.

The NRM secretary general, Justine Kasule Lumumba revealed the development during the event to close the three-week new NRM-MPs retreat which has been going on at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi district.

The event attended by President Yoweri Museveni and the First Lady and the Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs. Janet Museveni was held at Ngoma Government Farm in Nakaseke district on Wednesday.

Before a minute of silence was held in honour of Kasamba’s life and contribution not only to the party but to the entire country more especially in the agriculture sector, Lumumba thanked the President for the decision to grant Kasamba an official burial.

An official burial involves the Government working closely with the church and family and meeting costs of burial arrangements. It also includes paying tribute during a sitting of Parliament.

Lumumba described the former Kakuuto MP as a great farmer who instrumentally promoted coffee growing in the Rakai area and an entrepreneur who worked closely with producers in agro-processing.

Kasamba represented Kakuuto in Parliament between 1996 and 2016 before he called it a quiet from Parliament and instead challenged for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) winning the seat in December 2017.

Lumumba said the party has dispatched a team among others led by the party vice-chairperson for central region, Godfrey Kiwanda Ssubi, the party treasurer, Rosemary Namayanja and Rogers Mulindwa to work with the family on the burial arrangements.
