Museveni names FDC’s Ssebugwawo as Minister for ICT

President Museveni has appointed veteran politician and FDC stalwart Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo as the State Minister for Information Communication Technology and National Guidance in his new cabinet.

Her appointment however awaits final approval and vetting by Parliament Appointment Committee.

A staunch member and one of the top Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) stalwarts, Ssebugwawo’s name appeared in Museveni’s new cabinet that he has released on Tuesday evening, which also shook her by surprise as she claims she was not consulted or contacted for the appointment.

It is not yet understood whether she will turn down the position of appointment heeding to the fact that she was caught unaware or will she accept to serve in Museveni’s government like other opposition political figures.

However, all those from the opposition side who have served in the Government cabinet have eventually denounced their political parties in favor of the ruling political party, the National Resistance Movement. These Betty Anywar, Betty Kamya, all formerly for FDC, and Nakiwala Kiyinji formerly from the Democratic Party among others.

Ssebugwawo is a former minister in the Buganda government. She joined the Buganda government in early 1980s where she worked as a Minister for women, community work and mobilization. She is also a former National Chairperson of the Forum for Democratic Change.
