ADJUMANI: Corrupt Commercial Officer Embarrassingly Returns Sh14m Emyoga Money

The embattled Adjumani district commercial officer Dipio Agnes has returned the shs 14m she unlawfully obtained from executive committee members of the Emyoga project.

The Adjumani Chief Administrative Officer {CAO} Jack Byaruhanga has in a sharp reaction slapped the wicked commercial officer with a warning letter.

The shs 14m has since then been banked in the respective centenary bank accounts of the groups. The among others includes Adjumani West and East women entrepreneurship Associations’. Adjumani West and East PWD entrepreneurship associations and two Saloon groups.

In March this year, Seven groups of the Emyoga project variously filed complaints of extortion of money by Dipio Agnes under the disguise of appreciation but the commercial officer vehemently denied the allegation.

The Adjumani CAO Jack Byaruhanga consequently instructed the commercial officer in a correspondence dated, April 30, 2021, to file a written defense owing to the numerous incriminating shreds of evidence adduced by the disgruntled Emyoga group’s leaders.

In her defense dated, May 6,2021, referenced “Response to an allegation of extortions of money under Emyoga program”. The astonished commercial officer Dipio Agnes acknowledged the receipt of CAO’s letter CR/1150/04 of April 30,2021, on the above subject.

In her defense Dipio Agnes submitted that she received the cumulative shs 14m as appreciation for job well done and begged CAO Jack Byaruhanga to show mercy by exercising a reasonable amount of leniency since she did not solicit the money.

During a press briefing in his office yesterday June 15, 2021, CAO Jack Byaruhanga said the justification of Dipio Agnes that she received the money in appreciation is unreasonable and criminal.

CAO Byaruhanga explains the law stipulates that any amount excess of shs 130,000 received as gratitude by a government official ought to be declared to government.

Seemingly dejected CAO Jack Byaruhanga says he regrets the action of the commercial officer because it has paralyzed the operations of the affected groups yet she is supposed to be a facilitating agent.

Sensing the hopelessness of the situation Dipio Agnes who is the daughter of Adjumani business tycoon Amaza Emmanuel has since then gone on annual leave and could not return telephone calls seeking comment.

In Adjumani district 18 groups have benefited from the Emyoga funds with each group receiving a universal amount of shs 30m.

In his inaugural address the Adjumani district chairman Anyama Ben was very particular about his zeal to deal with networks of corruption and wipe out corrupt government officials in the district.
