The National Drug Authority (NDA) has expressed it’s concern over the increased rate of unqualified drug shop staff in the Western region.
This was discovered in a two weeks inspection campaigns set in Districts of Kakumiro, Mityana, Kagadi, Kibaale, Kyenjojo, Hoima, Bunyangabu among others assessing whether both animal and human drugs shops in the region are following the rules and regulations set by NDA.
Dr. Stephen Ssemakalu the Regulatory Officer at NDA says in their two weeks campaign, they discovered that many drug shops in the Western region are operated by unqualified persons.
“We have discovered that people who have license to operate drug shops have given that responsibility to unqualified persons which is unlawful and putting human and animal health at a risk,” said Ssemakalu.
He added that they have arrested a woman aged 60 years in Kasambya Town council in Kakumiro District identified as Florence Birungi who was found operating an animal drug with out qualifications.
“We are also warning Ugandans to be conscious about these drug operators especially those who are unqualified, they will harm your life since they even don’t know how to use those drugs”. Ssemakalu added.
Ssemakalu noted that as NDA, they will not accept such tendencies and therefore warns all drug shop owners to consider the rules and regulations set up by NDA during their recruitment process and daily operations.
