HOIMA, UGANDA: The Hoima District Health sector and other partners have today at Hoima taxi park launched the mass vaccination on Covid 19 in the district.
Fredrick Byenume the Hoima District Health Inspector says in this campaign that will last for a week, the district is targeting people who are above 18 years for the vaccination exercise.
“The government has prepared enough doses for this campaign and our target is to vaccinate at least 5000 people in a day,” Byenume said.
Byenume also urged community leaders to mobilize people in their areas to join the campaign.
“Am also asking VHTs and local council chairpersons for various villages/cells to mobilize their to join this activity”. He added.
The mass vaccination campaign in Hoima has come in a few Days after Uganda confirmed 7 cases of omicron virus.
Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng said despite the spread rate of the Omicron virus being too high, but it is not risky like the Delta virus which was in Uganda in June 2021 however people should not be reluctant.
Aceng urged Ugandans to get vaccinated since there is evidence that the omicron virus is spread out to various people especially those who are not yet acclimated.
The minister added that people who are already vaccinated have higher chances of preventing this virus, but also asked them to maintain SOPs.
