Heavy turn up of pupils at Hoima Public School worries school management

Patrick Irumba, the primary seven teacher asked the education sector to give them more teachers where he says that he is finding hardships of teaching a classroom of over 90 pupils.

HOIMA, UGANDA: School heads at Hoima Public Primary school have been threatened by the heavy turn up of pupils after schools reopening.

Harriet Karungi Basemera the school Headteacher says they have received over 300 new entrants which has led to some pupils failing to get seats due to the big numbers.
“We are requesting the Hoima city education department to fill the gaps and recruit more teachers since some have been promoted, others transferred and construct temporary buildings to accommodate other pupils because there who never turned up in the first week but they may turn in the following weeks and we are still registering because this is a public (UPE) school so we can not send them away”, said Madam Karungi.

“Patrick Irumba, a P.7 teacher atHoima Public School asked the education sector to give them more teachers saying he is finding it hard to teach a classroom of over 90 pupils.

Annet Kabasomi also a teacher at Hoima Public Primary school thanked parents for sending their children to school in large numbers however asked for staff support from the Hoima city authorities.

Meanwhile Johnson Kusiima Baingana the Hoima City Education Officer confirmed the heavy turn up at the school and promised to fill the gaps at the school.

“We have already received information about the high turn up of pupils at Hoima Public Primary school, It’s not a burden to the education sector because we are to manage it because we are going to recruit more teachers as soon as we get the Hoima city service Commission and also avail temporary classrooms for the pupils to study”. Mr. Baingana said.
