SHOCKING: Senior six student mysteriously found dead in school dormitory

MASINDI, UGANDA: Police in Masindi is investigating circumstances under which a Senior six student at Kabalega Secondary School was on Friday found dead in the school dormitory.

The deceased, identified as, Edmond Turamusiima, was doing Physics, Economics, and Mathematics (PEM) and expected to sit his final exams later this year.

According to the school headteacher, Mr. Andrew Tumwesige, Turamusiima who had never reported any case of sickness didn’t wake up for morning preps on Friday morning, and his fellow students left him sleeping in his bed only to find him dead after the preps.

“The students told me that Turamusiima didn’t wake up for morning preps, they left him sleeping in his bed and when they went back and checked on him, they found him dead,” Mr. Tumwesige said.

He added that Turamusiima’s sudden death came as a shock to both students and the teachers since he had never reported any case of unfamiliar illness or sickness.

“Since reporting to the school, the student has been in good health and had not reported to any teacher that he was sick and we were shocked to hear that he died in the dormitory,” added Mr. Tumwesige.

Mr Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, saidpolice have opened up the general inquiry file such that whoever has information connected to the death should inform the police.
He said that the postmortem report from Masindi hospital indicated that the deceased died of suffocation.

“We have started an investigation as police to know why the student died of suffocation in the dormitory because it’s what the postmortem report is showing,” Mr Hakiza said.

Mr Albert Mwesigwa, the paternal uncle to the deceased said as a family they were expecting a lot from him and his dream was to become an engineer.
“We expected Turamusiima to be an engineer since it was his dream, it’s God who gives and takes,” he noted.
