Team University passes out 1830 students on its 9th graduation

KAMPALA, UGANDA: Team University on Friday passed out a total of 1830 graduates awarded with Master’s Degrees, Bachelor Degrees, Diplomas, and Certificates as the institution held its 9th graduation ceremony.

The function held at Pope Paul hotel in Lubaga division Kampala was presided over by Owek. Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo, the State Minister for ICT and national guidance, who is also the former mayor of the division.

Mrs. Ssebugwawo in her speech tasked the graduates to put into practice the skills they have acquired in university to transform the country.
“The numbers of the people graduating today are big enough to transform the society in very few years,” Ssebugwawo said. Adding that Uganda’s biggest problem is just ignorance brought by or no education at all.

The minister praised University administrators for including science and technology in their faculties. She said private Universities are more organized than public universities where students are always on strike.

“You heard the other time Makerere students protesting E-learning, this is a new technology that we must all embrace but it’s a shame to find the leading university is the one shunning the program,”

“You are fulfilling the government programme of promoting science and technology that will also promote industrialization which will create jobs for the growing youth in the country,” she said.

Ssebugwawo said the government is planning to make sure the internet is accessed by everybody at a very cheap price which will promote education and business using the internet.

The university Chancellor, Prof. Tarsis Kabwengyere praised graduates for completing their studies with lockdown challenges.

“We have been in a terrible situation of Covid19 pandemic situation for the last two years, but our students managed to persist and complete their courses,” he said.

He praised the parents for managing to pay school fees for their children since the University is purely private and relies on the parents’ contributions to run the affairs of the institution.

He urged the graduates to use the skills they acquired to promote the government program of parish model in their respective parishes.

“Do not remain here in Kampala looking for jobs, the job is in your villages, the government will bring its program and find you there when you’re already knowledgeable which will help you to tape the money,” he advised.

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Lutalo Bbosa said they were overwhelmed by the numbers graduating at once and promised that next time they will think of graduating twice to reduce on numbers so that they finish the function early.

“Team University has many programs which are suitable for all learners which he said was a reason for increasing the number of graduates,” He said their programs include weekend, evening, in service and full time which many private universities do not have.

Prof. Lutalo said they are also planning to use technology learning using phones and computers while learners are in their homes and other places of work.

He praised the staff for the good working relationship which has been exhibited all along at the university.

David Tushobomwe, one of the University directors said beginning next year they will open more five University branches in Ntungamo, Lira, Fort portal, Mbale, and Iganga. He added that this year, they added more science courses that includes national diploma and national certificates in building construction and civil engineering, electrical installation as well as mechanical engineering in addition to computer science and information technology which university has been offering since it started.

The Kalungu district deputy RDC Minam Kagaiga who was among the graduates urged women to drop whatever they are doing and study. Kagaiga was doing a post graduate diploma in public administration.

Team University there is no reason for not upgrading that you don’t have time, because they have all the programs,” she said.

Deputy RDC Kagaiga said she will use the administrative skills she acquired at University to do the work of state and uplift the wellbeing of Kalungu people.

“Am going to emphasize on the education of a woman, from here I will begin a program of visiting home to home to ascertain the level of education of women in Kalungu and woo them to get some education,” she said.

Monic Kyomuhangi was named best Diploma in primary education student with 4.95points.
