Primary school headteacher on the run after raping 15-year-old pupil

“He sent the victim to take mathematics textbook to the school library, then followed her and raped her,” the police report seen by this reporter reads in part.

NAKASEKE, UGANDA: Police in Nakaseke district is on the hunt for a primary school teacher who disappeared after allegedly raping one of his pupils.

Ramathan Senyondo, 50, a headteacher at Maranathan primary school in Kiwoko Town Council, Nakaseke district allegedly committed the shameful act on May 08, 2022 at around 8pm in the school library.

Police in a report filed against the headteacher says while at the school, Ssenyondo allegedly asked the victim (names withheld) to take textbooks to the library after preps and followed her there where he forced himself into a sexual act with her.

“He sent the victim to take mathematics textbook to the school library, then followed her and raped her,” the police report seen by this reporter reads in part.

The victim reportedly went back to the dormitory and narrated the ordeal to a friend who in turn advised the victim to inform their senior woman teacher, but the senior woman reportedly advised the victim not to reveal this information to any other person.

However, when the victim and her friend were released to go home and collect school fees, they revealed the information to her mother who then informed the victim’s mother.

The parents then reported the incident to Kiwoko police station.

Savannah regional police spokesperson ASP Isah Semwogerere said that a team of detectives were dispatched to the scene of crime led by an officer in charge of Sexual and Gender Based Violence.

He added that the victim was also examined at Nakaseke district referral Hospital but no arrest has been made so far since the suspect is on the run.

Last week, Police released its annual crime indicating an increase in the number of cases SGBV by 8.2%

On defilement, the report showed that there was a 2.1% percent increase compared to the previous year and out of the 14436 cases of defilement, over 3000 were aggravated defilement.

Statistics show that in 2021, victims of defilement between the age of 0-8 years were 1166 compared to 1280 in 2020. Victims between 9-14 years were 3351 higher from 2986.
