IGANGA, UGANDA: Former contestant for Iganga municipality Member of Parliament seat and a member of National Unity Platform (NUP), Waiswa Denis on Saturday got someone to replace him in the political sphere just a week after ceasing in a fatal accident.

Waiswa died in a Saturday accident last week which claimed two lives in Kumi district along Kumi-Soroti road as they followed the convoy of NUP president Kyagulanyi Sentamu Robert alias Bobi Wine which was destined for Omoro district to campaign for their candidate ahead of filling the position of Omoro member of parliament. He was buried in Namwendwa- Kamuli district last Monday.

The deceased was a member of NUP but contested on an independent ticket after the party leadership in the district failed to give him the party ticket for issues only known to them.

However, despite losing the 2021 race, Waiswa continued pushing for good leadership and has been on the forefront of seeing that the voice of a common is heard. Before meeting his death, he was leading protests against construction on Iganga’s green belt commonly known to locals as freedom square.

This matter which is still in Jinja high court, was filed by Iganga municipality MP Mugema Peter aka Panadol against Iganga municipal council but Waiswa died before witnessing the judgement.

To commemorate his various achievements, the family organised a prayer fellowship at their home in Nkono ward, Iganga municipality which was also aimed at fronting the twin brother Tenywa Collin as Waiswa’s successor to carry-on the political mantle from where the deceased ended.

At the function which attracted various people both from NUP and across political parties, the Chairperson women league eastern region in National Unity Platform (NUP) and former woman member of parliament runner in Iganga district, Hajjat Aziza Kakerewe says that according to the political boldness which the late had, they requested parents of the deceased to give them a successor and they accepted and given in the brother Collin Tenywa.

“As NUP and basing on the political boldness which Denis had, we requested parents of the deceased and told them that whatever Denis has been doing was to fight for this country and to get new leadership. We requested the mother and the father that in the gap of Denis, they give us his twin brother Tenywa and they accepted that we work with him and push the agenda of Denis further,” Hajjat Kakerewe said.

She also said that they expect much from Tenywa as they see him bold like Waiswa used to be and said that he is expected to strive and accomplish whatever Waiswa left in the pipeline.

While preaching at the home of the deceased’s parents, the Canon of St Peters Church of Uganda in kasokoso- Iganga municipality, Rev Alfred Bolya consoled the family for losing their son and urged the successor to continue trusting God in everything he pursue to accomplish what the late brother started.

“To the parents of late Waiswa Denis, I want to draw hope to you that God knows what you’re going through. Our brother no longer exist though he was a powerful and social person and all his undertakings were signs of victory, so I want to request Tenywa to start from where Denis stopped and be filled with grace which was possessed by Denis and continue trusting God,” Rev Bolya said.

Rev Bolya as well urged parents to always prepare their children to face future life other than tangibly preparing for them.

“I urge the parents to prepare your children to face the future not to prepare wealth for them. By preparing your children, they will be in position to prepare for their good future life,” said Rev Bolya before reminding the congregation that everyone should bear hope however tough the situation may be.

Meanwhile, Tenywa Collins pledged to continue following his brother’s legacy and urged all politicians to unite and fulfill the deceased’s dreams when they are together.

“Me and my family have decided that I will replace Denis according to the life he has been moving even in politics. In issues of politics, I call upon all leaders who have been working with Denis that you come and we put together energy and wisdom to realize the dreams of my brother,” Mr Tenywa said.

He told Daily Express that he will start with bringing together the political team of the deceased and other supporters of NUP. He added that when time come for him to actively participate in politics, he will inform the public.

“It’s not yet time to start active politics like contesting but I know that when that time comes people will know and I will invite them as witnesses that Collin has declared to accomplish the journey which was started by Denis,” Tenywa said with deep humility.

The parents, Mr. George William Musobya and Ms Nabirye Margret appreciated the NUP party president Robert Kyagulanyi and the entire leadership of NUP for standing with them during the trying moment when they lost their dear son.

The prayers were attended by among others, the woman member of parliament Iganga district Hon Sauda Kauma Alibaawo.
