MOROTO, UGANDA: Eleven soldiers from the 409 Battalion brigade in Nabilatuk district have been airlifted to Bombo military hospital after being involved in a motor vehicle accident along the Moroto-Soroti road on Friday.
The soldiers were aboard a military vehicle registration number D03DF 117, which got involved in an accident near Hotel Africana – about 6km from Moroto town.
Among the injured is Col Godfrey Kayondo, the commanding officer of the 409 Battalion. Maj Isaac Oware, the UPDF 3rd division spokesperson, says that six soldiers sustained severe injuries while five escaped with minor injuries.
According to Oware, the victims were first rushed to Moroto Regional Referral hospital but the military leadership thought it best to evacuate them to Bombo military hospital for further management. He explains that preliminary information shows that the military vehicle overturned after sustaining a tyre burst.
