KAMPALA, UGANDA: Gordon Bafaki, the former member of parliament for Kazo County is dead. Bafaki died in an accident that occurred in Kiwatule, along the Kampala Northern bypass, on Tuesday night.
According to a traffic report by Kira road police, Bafaki was travelling in a Land Cruiser TX registration number, UBD 965E when he collided with a Mercedes Benz trailer registration number, KBZ 539Z.
Faridah Nampiima, the spokesperson of the Directorate of Traffic Police said Bafaki’s vehicle knocked down the rear body of the moving trailer and the lone occupant died instantly. John Kahagi Kinuthia, the driver of the trailer has been arrested to aid investigations.
At the time of his death, Bafaki was returning to his home in Namugogo-Kira Division from Kiruhura district where he had been attending a meeting as a member of the organizing committee for first son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s homecoming birthday celebrations.
In a related development, about a week ago, a Makerere University Business School (MUBS) student Posher Ahereza, 20, a diehard member of Muhoozi Kainerugaba (MK) project MUBS chapter passed away under suspicious circumstances with the family divided on whether it was due to a blood clot or poisoning.
Bafaki, 48, represented Kazo County in the tenth parliament and was ousted last year when he lost the seat to Dan Kimosho. He will be buried today in Kazo and is survived by a widow and five children. The police annual crime report released earlier this month indicated that the number of road accidents increased by 42 per cent from 12,249 in 2020 to 17,443 in 2021. According to the report, at least 12 people were killed on average every day in 2021.
