Thugs kill guards on duty, steal two motorcycles

According to Ssezibwa region Police spokesperson, Ms. Hellen Butoto, it is alleged that the assailants attacked the guards late in the night while they were on duty and hit them with blunt objects.

KAYUNGA, UGANDA: The territorial police in Kayunga district is investigating circumstances under which unidentified thugs murdered two guards and stole two motorcycles from a parking yard on Saturday night.

The incident happened at Namusisi Parking Yard at Nakirubi village, Kangulumira sub-county in Kayunga district while the deceased have been identified as one Asiku Biola, 34, and Ondoma Ali, 28, both of whom were the guards on duty the night the robbery happened.

According to Police Spokesperson in Ssezibwa region, Ms. Hellen Butoto, it is alleged that the assailants attacked the guards late in the night while they were on duty and hit them with blunt objects.

“The assailants inflicted several deep cuts on the heads of the victims, which likely led to their death due to over bleeding,” Butoto said, adding that the attackers made off with two Bajaj Boxers of Registration numbers; UEX 733D and UFF 616L.

“Police investigations into this murder case have kicked off and we hope the assailants will be apprehended and be charged with murder among other charges in the courts of law,” Butoto added.

The parking yard’s proprietor, Ronald Lukweya, said the two guards had worked at the place for three months and described them as hardworking people who loved their job.

“I employed Asiku first who later brought his friend, Ondoma,” Lukweya said, adding that the pair always reported on time for duty.

The area LC1 chairperson, Juma Muteguya, said the whole village was still in shock because Asiku and Ondoma were cordial with the whole community.

“We are still in shock for losing our friends,” Muteguya said.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem.

Similar Incidents

The gruesome incident now brings to four the number of guards that have so far been killed in the district in the last two months.

The first two were killed at a fuel station in Ntooke village in Kayunga Town Council where they were guarding.
