Suspected robber arrested in Jinja, toy pistol recovered

JINJA, UGANDA: Police in Kiira Region have arrested one suspect in connection with a spate of robberies in areas of Jinja city and the district.

The suspect identified as Emmanuel Mukisa, 25, a resident at Lubas road and Wanyange in Jinja was arrested on Tuesday July 26, and upon searching his bag, a toy pistol, pliers and other house breaking items were recovered.

The Kiira regional police spokesperson ASP James Mubi confirmed the report in a police statement released in the afternoon.

“Yes, we have arrested him and upon searching his bag, a toy pistol, pliers and other house breaking items were recovered. He is currently detained at Jinja central police station.”

According to police, on Eid day, Mukisa and others still at large broke into the house of Mr Lutaya Meddie at Gabula road in Jinja before stealing electrical appliances in the house and other items plus petty cash of Ugandan shillings 100,000.

“It’s alleged that on Eid, Emmanuel Mukisa and others still at large went and broke into the house of Mr Lutaya Meddie at Gabula road before stealing his TV, hoofer, flat iron box, Paco, 100,000/= and other things. This very kind of theft again happened after ten days from Eid day and we started tracking until we arrested him,” ASP James Mubi said.

He added that the suspect had been using the toy pistol to threaten people before robbing them.

“He has been using this toy pistol to threaten people before robbing them and this case becomes aggregated robbery. We want to call upon youths that engaging in theft doesn’t solve their problem but puts their lives in total danger since they will be arrested, charged and sentenced for involving in criminal acts.”

Mr. Mubi advised youths to get involved in legalized employment opportunities and avoid criminal acts which he said has caused them problems and wastage of time when they are locked up in prisons which could be utilized for their development activities.
