Two panga welding thugs shot dead in Jinja

According to Mr Mubi, the duo who were moving on a motorcycle registration number UFQ 677D allegedly robbed people of their items like mobile phones in two separate incidents on Thursday night.

JINJA, UGANDA: The police in Kiira region have shot and killed two suspected panga welding thugs who have been terrorising people in Jinja and the neighboring districts.

The deceased identified as Jeremiah Mivule and Joseph Mutali, residents of Nakibizi in Njeru division, Buikwe district were put out of action in an incident that happened on Thursday night, July 28 at Narambhai road in Jinja city.

This was confirmed by Kiira regional police spokesperson ASP James Mubi in a Friday afternoon police statement.

“Two panga welding suspected criminals were put out of action at Narambhai road in Jinja city. The deceased are Jeremiah Mivule and Joseph Mutali, residents of Nakibizi in Njeru division, Buikwe district,” ASP Mubi said.

“A lady was robbed, she alarmed and a one Isma Magoola ran to her rescue at the cemetery opposite Kampala University, Jinja campus but instead he was cut deeply on the head and hand,” Mubi said before pointing out that the boda boda rider took the victim to Jinja central police station to have the case reported before they(police) swiftly rushed to the scene of crime.

Police says that they received information about another related incident in Magwa, Jinja city where the same group attacked people and injured a one Alex Ariebi. Police rushed to the second scene of crime.
“The second incident was at Magwa in Jinja city, where four people were reportedly attacked by the same group and injured Alex Ariebi, whom we rushed to Jinja main hospital for medical attention and treatment,” Mubi confirmed.

However, he says police was prompted to put them out of action when they ruthlessly attempted to cut officers on duty, adding that ten mobile phones, a panga, motorcycle and keys were recovered and exhibited by police.

he concluded that the police has already started the investigations into the incident.
