KAMPALA, UGANDA: Members of Parliament were on Thursday afternoon gripped with panic after one of the MPs collapsed inside the house during heated campaigns for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) polls.

Hon Eddie Kwizera (Bukimbiri County) unceremoniously fainted and blacked out as some of the EALA MP aspirants were sharing their manifestos before being helped out by colleagues and whisked away into an ambulance to hospital.

The MPs collapse raises eyebrow as it comes at a time when Uganda is grappling with the outbreak of Ebola virus diseases which has so far killed 24 people and more than 40 infected including six doctors in the neighbouring district of Mubende, central Uganda.

The MPs are later today expected to cast their votes for the nine representatives who will represent Uganda at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) in Arusha, Tanzania.

A total of 28 candidates were last week nominated for the nine slots available, with NRM already ring fencing six seats, and only three will be battled out by the remaining 22 candidates.
