KISORO: Father arrested over death of own son who allegedly stole 40kgs of sorghum

KISORO, UGANDA: The Police in Kisoro District have arrested Mr. Yohana Maniragaba in connection to the death of his own son who allegedly stealing his 40Kgs of sorghum last week.

The deceased identified as Rogers Ndayambajje, 15, was a pupil at Mutorole primary school and a resident of Nturo village in Gisorora parish, Nyakabande Sub County, Kisoro district.

According to Kigezi Region police spokesperson Mr. Elly Maate, “It’s alleged that on Saturday, September 24, at around 10:30am while at Nturo village Yohana Maniragaba together with other people assaulted his son, now the deceased accusing him of stealing his 40Kgs of Sorghum.

Mr Maate said that the victim later died on Tuesday, September 27 at around 11am at his parents’ home and his death was reported to the police on Wednesday, September 28 at around 6Pm through a whistleblower

He added that detectives visited the scene of crime where Ndayambajje’s body was examined and statements obtained from witnesses before Maniragaba was arrested on murder charges.

Maate concluded that a case of murder was registered at Kisoro police station under CRB 648/2022 before Ndayambajje’s body was taken to Kisoro Hospital for postmortem
