Guard shot dead, gun taken in another attack on security in Luwero

The attack happened at around 12:30 pm at Advance Smart Micro Finance in Modern Zone in Wobulenzi town, where the unnamed guard attached to Sharon Security Company was deployed.

WOBULENZI, UGANDA: Police in Greater Luwero is on a manhunt for unknown assailants who shot dead a private security guard before robbing his gun in Wobulenzi town council in Luwero District on Wednesday afternoon.

The attack happened at around 12:30 pm at Advance Smart Micro Finance in Modern Zone in Wobulenzi town, where the unnamed guard attached to Sharon Security Company was deployed.

According to police authorities, the attackers ambushed the scene and immediately opened fire, killing the guard on the spot before they made off with his firearm.

Police rushed and cordoned off the scene to gather some evidence that will help them in their search for the killer.

By the time of compiling this report, a group of Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) soldiers had teamed up with the police to hunt the attacker. 

Mr Moses Ssebalamu, the LC 3 Chairperson of Wobulenzi, said that the assailant fled towards Wampamba zone and disappeared in the bushes.

Several security people have been gunned down in a similar manner, mostly in the evening or wee hours of the morning, and their guns stolen in recent months. However, this is the first attack that has taken place in broad daylight in a long time.
