KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Uganda Medical Association (UMA) President Dr Samuel Oledo has dragged the association’s executive to the high court challenging its decision to ask him to stand aside as it probes his conduct.

Dr Oledo’s woes started after a video of him and a group of medical interns appeared kneeling down before President Museveni at Kololo Independence Grounds earlier this month asking him to stand again for Presidency come 2026.

The doctor’s actions attracted public criticism and swift condemnation from UMA executive members accusing him of acting unprofessionally by ”involving” himself in partisan politics.

The executive further swung into action and asked Dr Oledo to step aside as inquiries were made into his conduct.

However, Dr Oledo last week insisted that he will not be stepping down from his position despite earlier calls from fellow association members, and he has now gone to court to challenge the association’s decision which he calls selective.

Dr Oledo’s letter to the High Court of Uganda

Dr Oledo accuses the association members of double standards, wondering why they never investigated him last year after he knelt down and asked Museveni to increase doctors’ salaries.

“Last year in November, I knelt down. How come investigations never went on at that time? The reason being, at that time it was a welfare of doctors. So, there it was about money coming into the pockets,” Oledo wondered.

The Uganda Medical Association has set Sunday, December 18, 2022 to vote on the fate of their troubled president Dr. Samuel Odongo Oledo.

This followed the NEC meeting, resolution calling for the Extra General Assembly where members can vote for the stay or departure of their president.
