KAMPALA, UGANDA: Police in Kampala have in custody a private security guard who is alleged to have shot and killed a city supermarket parking manager after a quarrel.

The deceased has been identified as one Christian Itangishaka, a 30-year-old Burundian National and resident of Bunamwaya, in Makindye division, Wakiso district.

The incident occurred on Monday, February 13th 2023 at about 8:00 pm at Roza Market located in Muzana Zone, Kisenyi 1 parish, Central Division, Kampala City.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy spokesperson Mr Luke Owoyesigyire, it is alleged that Christian who was the in-charge of parking at Roza Market picked up a quarrel with the suspect identified as Mathias Muhoozi of Blue Water Services, who had been newly deployed at the premises.

“It is alleged that the deceased had a disagreement with the newly deployed security guard when he attempted to access the premises to talk to his boss and was pushed away. This prompted Muhoozi to cork his gun, and a scuffle ensued after Christian attempted to grab the corked gun,” Owoyesigyire said in a statement.

“A bystander intervened and managed to separate the two, but the deceased walked away in the opposite direction. Unfortunately, Muhoozi shot Christian from behind, leading to his untimely death,” he added.

By the time police rushed to the scene, the victim had already succumbed to death following the injuries he sustained, and upon receiving the report, Police managed to respond at the scene, where they found Itangishaka lying in a pool of blood.

“Unfortunately, he had already succumbed to his injuries, and his body was conveyed to the City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem. Muhoozi later handed himself over to his supervisor, who brought him to Old Kampala Police station, where he is currently detained,” Owoyesigyire stated.
