Speeding truck kills 7-year-old pupil after crashing into perimeter wall

Police identified the deceased as Nakafero Robina, a primary two pupil at Candy Kids Nursery and Primary School located in Kamuli zone, Kira Municipality, Kampala.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Police in Kampala Metropolitan are investigating how a seven-year-old pupil was killed by a speeding Mitsubishi Canter truck No. UAZ 896J that rammed into the school perimeter wall on Thursday morning.

Police identified the deceased as Nakafero Robina, a primary two pupil at Candy Kids Nursery and Primary School located in Kamuli zone, Kira Municipality, Kampala.

According to the KMP Deputy spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the unfortunate incident happened on Thursday morning at around 7:10 am when the truck driver of the canter truck lost control of the speeding vehicle and knocked the school’s fence which is on Kireka-Kamuli road thus causing the death of the pupil.

Owoyesigyire said immediately after learning of the incident, police responded to the scene and took the deceased’s body to City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem examination, and added that the driver of the ill-fated vehicle was arrested and the car towed to Kira Police Station as inquiries into the matter continue.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Robina, and we share in their grief during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with the entire Candy Kids school community, who have been deeply affected by this tragic event,” the KMP spokesman said in a Thursday police statement.

“We urge the public to exercise caution on the roads and to prioritize the safety of themselves and others. We will continue to keep the public informed as more details emerge from the ongoing investigation,” he added.
