RUKIGA: Leaders demand hospital status of Mparo Health Centre IV

RUKIGA, UGANDA: Rukiga District leaders have asked the government through the Ministry of Health to expedite plans of elevating Mparo Health Centre IV to a hospital status in order to improve health services in the district.

Mparo Health Centre IV remains the main facility in the district that is being eyed to be upgraded to a district hospital.

Rukiga District Council financial year passed a resolution to have Mparo Health Centre IV upgraded to a district hospital to help people from travelling long distances in case of hospital referrals. Currently, patients with major complications are referred to Kabale regional referral hospital.

Speaking last Friday during the belated celebrations of International Women’s Day at Rwamucucu playground, the leaders led by the District Chairperson Mr Robert Mbabazi Kakwerere, the Rwamucucu Sub County Chairperson Mr Mugisha Edward and the District Woman Member of Parliament Caroline Kamusiime Muhwezi said that they are optimistic that once Mparo Health Centre IV is upgraded, it will help to extend major health services like a functional theatre and surgery services.

In her response, Prime Minister Robinah Nabanjja who was the guest of honour promised to make a report and advise the government on the need for the elevation of Mparo Health Centre to become a district hospital.

She added that the government is committed to ensuring that health services in all Health Center IIIs are improved.
