LUUKA, UGANDA: The First Deputy Prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom Prof. Dr. Muhamadi Lubega Kisambira has urged people in Busoga to restore culture of the Kyabazinga land by bringing up morally upright children as it used to be during the previous years.

Dr Lubega, who is also the chairman of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council(UMSC) was on Sunday speaking at the thanksgiving ceremony of Mr Nkyungwa Ezekiel, a teacher at Kiyunga primary school in Luuka district who graduated with A Bachelor of Agriculture in education from Busitema University at the function which was held at Hawaii International Hotel in Luuka town council.

The Deputy Premier tasked parents to go home and restore culture in children, especially by training them on traditional discipline citing that a number of children are falling prey to the immoral behaviours brought by the current generation where children are attracted to indecent worldly music, something the professor says has caused indecency in children.

“Today I was in Bugisu sub-region and they have their culture like we have ours in Busoga. I beseech you to go home and put right our culture of bringing up our children morally upright. I came watching some videos which were here via social media and what I’m speaking is not suitable for everyone but let me tell you, if the DJ plays ‘okwepicha’ song you can see what happens on that stage,” Dr Lubega said in displeasure, adding; “imagine you can find a 3-year-old singing ‘okwepicha’, you find others singing, enjoying and dancing ‘fumita empere’.”

He added; “We used to have our good music and dance and they still exist and interesting but this current generation, you listen to a song from Genesis to Revelation without picking anything good,” Prof Lubega said before tasking parents to educate their children even if they(parents) didn’t have an opportunity to study citing that education is more precious.

The woman MP Luuka district who is also a former minister for presidency Hon. Esther Mbayo Mbulakubuza urged all stakeholders in the education sector to play their role in guiding school-going children against acts that degrade their discipline. She also challenged people to go for further studies as a means of adding value to themselves instead of targeting the property of their parents as sources of their wealth.

However, Luuka North constituency MP Hon. Luke Kyobe Inyensiko commended parents who have since given their children a good foundation of education and urged people to advance so as to fit in government’s upcoming plan of only employing degree teachers. Hon Kyobe urged people to make use of government skilling centres especially those who didn’t go to school.

“I thank the government of Uganda for enabling all of us to go back to school and those who didn’t have the opportunity to study will benefit from skilling centres. We want to thank private institutions which are giving out degree programs since only government institutions could give out degrees previously,” Hon Kyobe said before appreciating people investing in businesses within the Busoga sub-region.

The graduate, Mr. Nkyungwa Ezekiel commended his parents for giving him an opportunity to study and he challenged his fellow youths to go to school as a way of benefitting the society better. Nkyungwa says that his successful journey has possessed ups and downs to the extent of seeking support from some politicians to have his journey realized.

“I was about to lose my year three exams and I was yet to miss registration too, not until I called Hon Kyobe who supported me with 500k to complete the process. I’m a product of Kagulu primary school, Irundu modern secondary school in Buyende district, Kaliro PTC and now Busitema University, therefore I thank all of them for the support but mostly my parents,” Mr Nkyungwa said.
