OYAM: Girl, 14, stabs father to death in domestic fight

SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson confirmed the report

Oyam, (UG): Police in Oyam District are hunting for a 14-year-old teenager who stabbed her father to death in an incident that happened in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

The unnamed teenager is alleged to have stabbed the deceased, Emmanuel Otim after he returned home drunk and picked up a quarrel with the teen’s mother.

“It is alleged that the deceased found his wife sharing the bed with the daughter prompting him to pick a quarrel with his wife. The quarrel later turned into a fight prompting the 14-year-old to pick a knife and stab the father,” said SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson.

The deceased according to Mr Okema was stabbed in the thigh and around his genital area causing profuse bleeding that led to his death.

“he bled severely and in the process, he tried running out but collapsed in the compound and died. Our scene of crime officers visited the scene and the deceased body was picked and conveyed to Anyeke Health Centre IV pending postmortem examination,” Mr Okema said.

Police said they are currently on the trace for the suspect who is still at large and efforts are underway by detectives to apprehend her.

“The hunt is ongoing. But, this is a very unfortunate incident, we appeal to children to avoid involving themselves in issues between their parents and instead seek help from the neighbourhood through making alarm,” Okema noted.

Cases of children involving in domestic fights have been on the rise in the country especially in the northern region, with several of them resulting in the death of either party.

For example, in February 2018, a 22-year-old daughter accidentally hit her father on the head with a piece of wood killing him instantly as she attempted to intervene in a fight between her parents. This was registered in Otuke District.
