MANAFWA: Medic on the run after patient mysteriously dies at his clinic

Elgon Regional Police Spokesperson SP Rogers Taitika confirmed the report in a Thursday police statement.

Manafwa, (UG): Police in Manafwa District are on a serious hunt for a runaway medical worker who abandoned his private clinic after a 53-year-old male patient died under mysterious circumstances on Thursday morning.

The suspect identified as Musugu Isaac and the deceased; Buke David, 53, are both residents of Bulekya village, Bukwaya parish, Bukhofu sub-county in the eastern Manafwa district. 

The disturbing incident which was reported to police by one Masinde John, 61, happened when the deceased went to seek medication at Musugu’s clinic after complaining of chest pain and malaria before being admitted to the clinic where he died the following morning.

The report was confirmed by Elgon Regional Police Spokesperson SP Rogers Taitika in a Thursday police statement.

According to SP Taitika, “It is alleged that yesterday the deceased went to Musugu Isaac’s clinic in Bulekya village, Bukwaya parish, Bukhofu sub-county in Manafwa district for treatment as he was complaining of malaria and chest pain. He was then admitted and treated at the facility,” SP Taitika said in a police statement, adding that “the deceased was speaking by himself at that time before his health deteriorated in the morning and died at around 9 am.”

Upon realizing the passing on of the patient, police say the owner of the facility (in fear of what had happened) ran away, abandoning the deceased in his clinic until Masinde John informed police about the incident via a phone call.

SP Taitika said the body was taken to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination as inquiries to ascertain the cause of death continue.

“We are hunting for him to explain his disappearance after the death of a patient and we shall interrogate him once apprehended. The postmortem examination is yet to be done at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary before handing it to relatives for burial arrangements,” he said in a statement.
