Pakwach LC 5 Vice Chairperson resigns to focus on councillorship

Pakwahc, (UG): Residents of Pakwach District in the West Nile sub-region are in limbo and dismayed by the untimely and rare relinquishment of political office and duties of Mr Ben Owiny, the LC5 Vice Chairperson of Pakwach District Local Government.

DailyExpress understands that Mr Owiny has been serving as the vice to the LC5 Boss Hon. Omito Robert Steen for the past two years and his sudden relinquishment of office has triggered unfiltered discussions in the public domain in an attempt to ascertain what could have unbearably caused loss of patience and zeal for political duties.

His resignation was tendered in to the District Chairperson on Monday, December 18 and copied to other supervising bodies and stakeholders for acknowledgement.

According to Mr Owiny, his resignation will allow him to have ample time to be closer to his people of Ragem sub-county and monitor government development programs.

Mr Owiny who spoke to DailyExpress in an exclusive interview revealed that what caused his abrupt resignation was his burning desire to serve his local community of Ragem subcounty who elected him to represent them as the district councillor and cited inadequate mobilization and sensitization of his local community in order to benefit from the various government projects.

“I want to maintain close contact with the electorates, consult them and other friends on matters pertaining to Development and that can only be done when am always with them,” Mr Owiny told this publication during an interview on Monday.

Mr Robert Steen Omito, the LC 5 chairperson of Pakwach District local government acknowledged receipt of Mr Owiny’s resignation letter and expressed how he was not disappointed by the actions of Mr Owiny and progressively iterated possible reasons for relinquishment in local government services.

“I am not disappointed, I am not missing anything personally I had seen that he did his part of course local government work has some frustrations if you don’t stand strong you may feel you are marginalized or not taken the honourable way your title sounds so it calls for resilience,” Omito said.

Mr Ben Owiny had earlier served as the District secretary for finance in the year 2017/2021.
