Stop politicising Islam, govt told

Iganga, (UG):- The former LCV Candidate for the Iganga District Chairperson seat under the National Unity Platform (NUP), Mr Kongola Nasser has challenged government to stop politicising Islam.

Kongola, currently eyeing the Mayoral Seat for Iganga Municipality made the remarks while serving an Eid Meal to his voters, at Iganga Town Council Primary School where he served his electorate with one bull and goat.

Kongola, who also doubles the NUP District Registrar says, “government actions on Muslims are to weaken Islam. Because it is the Muslims who have been branded terrorists, thugs and murders in most incidents especially when they identify with the opposition”.

He also decried the recent caning of Muslim faithful at Kololo during the launch of Salaam Bank, the first Islamic Bank in Uganda.

The Muslim community in Uganda joined the rest of the World to celebrate Eid – Iftri, as they wound up Ramathan – the fasting period.

The day was crowned with prayers and various activities in different parts of the Country.

Mr Kongola concluded the day by presiding over the finals of the Eid Cup Football Tournament at Iganga Town Council Primary School between Masjid Mecca and Masjid Madina where Mecca edged out Madina 5 to 2 in penalties.
