Mukono: Three-year-old child missing in suspected kidnap, two maids arrested

Mukono, (UG):- The Territorial Police at Mukono District, central Uganda are actively investigating a recent incident of child stealing taking a surge in the community.

According to preliminary investigations, it is reported that on Saturday, April 13, 2024, during the morning hours, a distressing event unfolded in Kikulu village, Sonde zone, Goma Division, one Kayongo Juma, 44, a resident of the same village reported to Seeta Police that his son, Nsimbe Ahammed, aged 3 and a half years old, had been taken from their home.

The report filed by Mr Kayongo indicated that the child had been left in the care of maids and a shamba boy but the shamba boy, identified as Sserwadda Sulaiman, who reportedly deceived the maids into believing that he had been instructed to take the child and the maid then handed over the child to Sulaiman, who subsequently disappeared with him.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire Deputy Public Relations officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police confirmed the report and said the territorial police have launched an extensive search for both the missing child and the suspect.

He added that the maids involved in the incident, Nabagala Joanitah, aged 29, and Namutala Doreen, aged 30, have been arrested and are currently in police custody.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire has revealed that the suspect, Sserwadda Sulaiman, has been also apprehended and is currently detained at Mbale Police Station pending transport to Seeta for further legal proceedings.

The KMP commended all the officers involved in the swift resolution of this case and members of the community who provided valuable assistance and information that led to the suspect’s arrest.
