Mukono, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Mukono are holding 29 suspects arrested over three disturbing cases of mob justice, murder and malicious damage to property in the central Ugandan district.

According to preliminary information obtained, it is alleged that the disturbing incidents occurred on April 12th, 2024, at approximately 1 pm, in Kakoola Village, Nama Sub-county, Mukono district where four individuals were subjected to brutal violence by members of the Kakoola community and were mercilessly beaten and burned beyond recognition.

Among them, two were identified as Junior Masiga and Semujju Abdallah, while the other two are yet to be identified.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the development on Monday morning and said that after police inquiries into the cases, it was discovered that the public reaction to lynching the mob stemmed from an earlier incident of Murder in Kakola village, Katogo Parish.

The initial incident according to Owoyesigyire had taken place on the 11th day of April 2024, where two Boda Boda riders fell victim to a heinous attack, resulting in their untimely deaths.

“Their motorcycles, with registration numbers UFF955G and UFX 119V respectively, belonging to Sande Ssemanda and Mawanda Richard, were stolen by the assailants, who callously dumped their bodies in a nearby swamp,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.

As investigations unfolded after the incident, it came to light that one resident, Senyondo John, who is currently in custody at Mukono CPS, identified the alleged attackers that fateful night. However, instead of alerting the authorities, the community took matters into their own hands.

“They located the suspects identified above, beat them up, and burnt them beyond recognition. They later suspected others to be involved in the murders of the riders, whom they arrested, brought to the burial grounds of one of the deceased riders, and executed them before setting their bodies ablaze,” stated ASP Owoyesigyire.

He added that the police in Mukono, in collaboration with other security agencies, swiftly responded to this horrific act and as a result, 29 individuals have been apprehended to assist in the ongoing investigations.

“Concurrently, an intensive probe is underway to uncover any additional suspects involved in the initial murder of the two riders and the two separate cases of mob justice and Malicious Damage,” Mr Owoyesigire said.

“We urge the public to refrain from resorting to Mob justice, as it not only fails to deliver justice but also obstructs law enforcement efforts by impeding evidence collection,” he added.
