Nansana, Uganda: Pastor Wilson Bugembe of Worship House Church has defended his decision to welcome secular musicians into his congregation, responding to recent criticisms from fellow Christian leaders.
During his Sunday service, Pastor Bugembe addressed attacks that had surfaced on Kingdom TV, a station owned by Bishop David Kiganda, where a panel of commentators questioned his openness to celebrities from the secular music scene.
“I just saw a video of some people who were on TV. I know one of them, but the others I don’t. They were insulting us as a church for welcoming celebrities,” Bugembe said.
He expressed surprise that such criticisms were being propagated on a Christian television channel, emphasizing that instead of condemning others, church leaders should focus on using their platforms to glorify God.
Bugembe, known for blending contemporary gospel music styles and preaching a message of inclusivity, maintained that his ministry seeks to reach all souls, not just those who already identify as Christians.
“The church must be a home for everyone,” he insisted, urging fellow believers to embrace a spirit of love and unity rather than judgment.
The backlash comes amid ongoing debates within Uganda’s Christian community about how churches should engage with individuals from non-religious entertainment sectors.
