“Rajiv saw potential where others saw limitation” – Dr Sudhir pays tribute to son at emotional send-off (FULL SPEECH)

Dr Sudhir and wife Jyotsna Ruparelia at the final send-off of their beloved son, husband, father, and brother whose life was filled with purpose, passion, and an enduring impact on all who knew him.

Kampala, Uganda: Ugandan Business magnate Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia on Tuesday delivered an emotional eulogy at the final send-off of his son, Rajiv Ruparelia, hailing him as a generous, vibrant, and service-driven soul who impacted many lives in his short but meaningful journey.

Speaking at the Hindu Crematorium in Lugogo, Kampala, where Rajiv was cremated in line with Hindu traditions, the Ugandan billionaire remembered his son as a man who saw greatness in others even when the world overlooked them.

“Rajiv carried a rare maturity and an infectious zest for life. He was deeply committed to helping those in need, especially children from underprivileged backgrounds,” an emotional Sudhir said. “He quietly supported education from primary school to university. That was who he was — someone who saw potential where others saw limitation.”

Rajiv, who died in a tragic motor accident on Saturday, May 3, at the age of 35, was remembered not only as the heir to one of Uganda’s most prominent business empires but also as a loving father, husband, and pillar of support for countless youth.

Sudhir recounted fond memories of their time together, including childhood travels, fishing trips on Lake Victoria, and Rajiv’s early sense of leadership. “He gave me joy, pride, and purpose,” the business mogul added. “Though your time with us was short, your impact will last far beyond your years.”

Below is the tribute in full, as delivered by Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia:

Rajiv Ruparelia — beloved son of Jyotsna and myself, devoted husband to Naiya, proud father of Inara, cherished brother to Meera and Sheena, and a loving mama to Arie, Mila, Miraya, Aryaan, and Avianna — has left us far too soon, called to his heavenly abode at just 35 years of age.

As a father, I carry both the pain of this loss and the immense pride of having raised a son like Rajiv. What I will always remember most is his vibrant energy — an energy that could fill a room, light up a gathering, and spark inspiration in others. Despite his youth, Rajiv carried a rare maturity. He had an infectious zest for life and a heart drawn naturally to service.

He was deeply committed to helping those in need, especially children from underprivileged backgrounds. He quietly supported the education of so many, from primary school all the way to university. Over the past few days, I’ve witnessed countless young people come forward to share how Rajiv’s generosity changed the course of their lives. That was who he was — someone who saw potential where others saw limitation.

Rajiv also built lasting relationships — both among his peers and within political and social circles. He had a way of connecting with people that was genuine and lasting.

His passion for motorsport, especially rally driving, was well known. He pursued it with intensity and love — so much so that, at one point, I asked him to step away for his own safety. But even when he stopped racing, the sport never left his heart.

As a child, Rajiv would travel with me often. I once bought him a small briefcase — he was so proud of it — and he would fill it with chocolates before we set off on our trips together. Those little details stay etched in a father’s memory.

From the age of five, Rajiv and I would go fishing on Lake Victoria. We spent countless Sundays on the water, just the two of us. Those quiet, shared moments are some of the most precious memories I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Rajiv, you gave me joy, pride, and purpose. Though your time with us was short, your impact will last far beyond your years. May your soul rest in eternal peace, my son. You will never be forgotten.

Rajiv is survived by his wife Naiya, daughter Inara, and a large extended family who gathered alongside political, religious, and business dignitaries to pay their final respects.
