Amolatar, Uganda: A total of 163 farmers’ groups in Amolatar District have been registered to receive marketing grants under the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project (UCSATP), a six-year government initiative supported by the World Bank.
The project, implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), is being rolled out in 69 districts across the country, targeting improvements in fisheries, crops, livestock, and beneficial insects.
The development was confirmed during a local government committee meeting held on May 9, 2025, where district leaders met to review project implementation and fast-track farmer sensitization efforts.
Samuel Dulson Okello, the UCSATP focal point person in Amolatar, said the project will be implemented across all 16 sub-counties of the district and will include training programs, harmonized sector guidelines, and infrastructure development.
“Besides the support to farmer groups, we are also improving infrastructure, including four major roads and the construction of selected dams to boost productivity,” Okello said.
The four key road improvements will benefit Acii-Mucora road (6.5 km), Atomoro-Anamido road (5 km), Corner Agoga to Agoga road (7 km), and Orimai to Epyel road (3 km)
Meanwhile, the distribution of farmer groups based on sector focus includes Beef cattle that will benefit 30 groups across five sub-counties, 50 groups across five sub-counties will involve Mango farming, whereas 20 groups across 10 sub-counties take on Soybeans farming.
Others are Citrus farming, where 50 groups across five sub-counties will benefit. 12 groups across two sub-counties to get Capture fisheries, while beneficial insects will benefit 10 groups of black soldier flies and 45 groups of bees
Deizy Eka, the Principal Secretary of Amolatar District, said the program is designed to transform farming into a sustainable and profitable business.
“Farmers who embrace this opportunity will see real results—higher incomes, stronger enterprises, and reliable market access,” Eka said.
Assistant RDC Sarah Tyan called for responsible use of project funds. “This is a co-funded initiative. Farmers must maximize its benefits. Community leaders should ensure smooth implementation,” she added.
Kizito Odongo, Acting Principal Agricultural Officer at MAAIF and Lango sub-region team lead, said UCSATP is designed to boost agricultural productivity, strengthen value chains, and enhance climate resilience, while also offering a rapid response mechanism to agricultural crises.
