Museveni takes PDM Assessment Tour to Greater Luwero after Tooro

Luwero, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tuesday announced the start of his Parish Development Model (PDM) assessment tour in the Greater Luwero sub-region, marking a continuation of his national inspection campaign aimed at evaluating the progress and impact of the government’s flagship poverty alleviation program.

“Fellow Ugandans, especially the Bazzukulu, starting today, we will be in Greater Luwero for our PDM assessment tour,” President Museveni posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account this morning.

The President’s move to Luwero follows a similar week-long engagement in the Tooro sub-region, where he traversed several districts, engaging local leaders, PDM beneficiaries, and technical teams to monitor implementation, identify bottlenecks, and encourage transparency and productivity.

Greater Luwero, regarded as the cradle of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) revolution, holds historical and political significance for the President. His visit is expected to reinvigorate grassroots support while ensuring that the PDM funds are reaching intended beneficiaries.

The PDM initiative, launched in 2022, targets transforming 39% of Uganda’s population from a subsistence to a money economy by injecting UGX 100 million per parish to support income-generating activities, especially in agriculture.

However, concerns around delayed fund disbursement, corruption, and poor local mobilization have prompted the President to personally monitor and troubleshoot the program’s performance.

As he visits the Greater Luwero region, President Museveni is expected to traverse the districts of Luwero, Nakaseke, and Nakasongola, where he will interface with parish chiefs, district leaders, and the beneficiaries themselves.
