Pallisa, Uganda: The Archbishop of Tororo Catholic Archdiocese, His Eminence Dr. Emmanuel Obbo, has called on Christians to strongly guard against domestic violence, describing it as one of the worst vices hindering social and spiritual development.
Dr. Obbo made the remarks on Monday, March 19, 2025, at Abila Rock Primary School in Opwateta Sub-county, Pallisa District, where Kamuge-Olinga Catholic Parish hosted him to preside over the sacrament of confirmation for 1,107 Christians, most of them youths.
In his sermon, the Archbishop rebuked the practice of roaming at night, describing it as a waste of energy that disrupts community peace.
“What night dancers do is to inconvenience others from comfortable sleeping to hinder them from doing the productive work the next morning,” Bishop Obbo stated to thousands of Christians in attendance.
He added that domestic violence is far worse than night dancing because it tears families apart and hampers societal progress. “Domestic violence is worse than night dancing because it affects more people, which leads to separation, divorce, breaks family relationships, breeds poverty, and affects Christianity,” he emphasized.

He urged Christians to adhere to the teachings and proclamations made during the Lenten season, noting: “The teachings and proclamations made during the Lent period should be adhered to for us to live the full life expected of Christians.”
To the candidates being confirmed, Archbishop Obbo encouraged them to uphold the values of faith and emulate Christ through acts of kindness.
Reverend Father Acquinas Outa, the Parish Priest of Kamuge-Olinga Parish, revealed that the Archbishop had initially been scheduled to confirm over 5,000 candidates, but most had not completed the required steps.
“What affected them was the death of Pope Francis, as they got it wrong that the entire clergy was going to the Vatican for burial. Otherwise, we are going to equip the other 4,000 before they are paraded for the holy sacrament,” Fr. Outa said.
John Francis Okuma, the Speaker of the Iteso Cultural Union, praised Archbishop Obbo for his humility and commitment to pastoral work. “This is a parish activity which is supposed to be held at the parish headquarters, but Papa Bishop, we are humbled by your love for the Church when you accepted to come here. This makes our brothers and sisters in Christ here feel recognized,” Okuma said.
