LIST: Every league winner, top scorers and UEFA qualification across Europe for 2024/25 Season

Europe (Football): The 2024/25 European football season officially came to a close on Sunday, May 25, drawing down the curtain on one of the most fiercely contested campaigns in recent memory.

Across the continent’s top domestic leagues, champions were crowned, goal-scoring heroes emerged, and European football tickets were secured for the upcoming 2025/26 UEFA club competitions.

Each of Europe’s major leagues; Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Eredivisie, Primeira Liga, and Süper Lig, offered its own mix of title drama, golden boot races, and tactical masterclasses that defined the year.

Premier League (England)

Liverpool reclaimed domestic glory, lifting their 20th English top-flight title under the stewardship of Jurgen Klopp in his final season at Anfield. Their attack, led by a resurgent Mohamed Salah, was relentless throughout the campaign, scoring 86 times, 14 more than any other side.

Salah not only topped the goal charts but also the assist rankings, cementing one of the finest individual campaigns in recent memory. It is the second time he has bagged a double of the accolades, having done so in the 2021/22 season with 23 goals and 13 assists respectively.

La Liga (Spain)

Barcelona clinched the La Liga crown in a tense final week, edging Real Madrid by 4 points. Their Spanish winger Lamine Yamal led the league in assists (13), while Kylian Mbappé, in his debut season for Real Madrid, claimed the Pichichi trophy with 31 goals in just 34 matches.

Mbappé’s move from Paris paid immediate dividends, despite narrowly missing out on the title.

Serie A (Italy)

Napoli were unstoppable under Antonio Conte, cruising to the Serie A title on the final matchday of the league, capping an intense Serie A title battle witnessed this season. Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui stunned the country by finishing as the league’s top scorer, while Romelu Lukaku’s creative role at Napoli caught many by surprise.

Bundesliga (Germany)

Bayern Munich reclaimed the Bundesliga throne, beating their 2023/24 rivals Bayer Leverkusen to the glory. Harry Kane, in his second Bundesliga season, bagged 26 goals to win the Golden Boot and seal his first-ever career trophy at 31 years.

Olise’s rise as a creative maestro marked a new generation at the Allianz Arena with 15 assists in his debut season with the Bavarians.

Ligue 1 (France)

Paris Saint-Germain continued their domestic dominance, with Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué leading the way in attack. Despite the loss of Kylian Mbappé to Real Madrid, PSG adapted quickly, and the arrival of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli bolstered Luis Enrique’s attacking trio alongside teenager Doue and Dembele.

Eredivisie (Netherlands)

Ajax returned to the top of Dutch football after a two-year drought, with Brian Brobbey and Steven Berghuis leading their charge.

  • Europa League: Feyenoord, AZ Alkmaar
  • Europa Conference League: FC Twente
  • Top Scorer: Brian Brobbey – 23 goals
  • Top Assist Provider: Steven Berghuis – 12 assists

Ajax’s blend of youth and experience proved too much for their rivals.

Primeira Liga (Portugal)

Sporting CP were the runaway winners in Portugal, driven by the lethal form of Viktor Gyökeres, who posted Europe’s highest goal tally this season.

  • UEFA Champions League: Sporting CP, Benfica
  • Top Scorer: Viktor Gyökeres – 39 goals
  • Top Assist Provider: Francisco Trincao – 14 assists

The top teams in Primeira Liga qualify for the UEFA Champions League, with the winner entering the group stage directly. The second-placed team enters the playoffs for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League; if they fail to qualify, they enter the UEFA Europa League, along with the Taça de Portugal cup winners.

European Golden Boot 2024/25

  1. Winner: Kylian Mbappé (Real Madrid) – 31 goals
  2. Runner-up: Viktor Gyökeres (Sporting CP) – 39 goals (lower coefficient)
  3. Third place: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – 29 goals

Mbappé’s exploits in La Liga earned him the European Golden Boot, despite Gyökeres scoring more goals in Portugal’s lower-ranked league by UEFA coefficients.
