“Stop Lying to Uganda!” – Sironko locals rebuke Nambozo over election claims

Sironko, Uganda: The recent National Resistance Movement (NRM) District Chairperson elections in Sironko have peeled back the curtain on political desperation, exposing what many now describe as a last-ditch attempt by State Minister for Karamoja Affairs and Sironko Woman MP, Hon. Florence Nambozo Wamala, to cling to influence through deception, manipulation, and public falsehoods.

In the aftermath of her humiliating loss, Hon. Nambozo took to the airwaves, alleging vote-rigging and exclusion of her supporters. But for those on the ground, the truth is plain: her campaign failed not because of foul play, but because the people of Sironko rejected her tactics and her leadership.

A Campaign Built on Fiction

As she re-entered the political fray in a bid to capture the NRM District Chairperson seat, Hon. Nambozo launched what appeared to be a panicked mobilization campaign. Turnout at her sub-county meetings told the real story, where 200 to 300 people were expected, barely 30 showed up.

When the lack of support became undeniable, she allegedly shifted to mobilizing parish-level delegates, who by party rules have no vote at the district level. Sources say this was a calculated ploy to swell the venue with non-voters and force confusion that would justify a postponement. The plan flopped.

Allegations of Bribery and Misdirection

Multiple witnesses allege that Hon. Nambozo dished out UGX 30,000 to youth delegates and UGX 20,000 to others, reportedly telling them the funds were courtesy of Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi, a senior FDC figure, raising questions about her loyalties and the source of her campaign funds.

Security agencies were reportedly on alert, citing fears of planned disruptions and intimidation tactics by unidentified groups believed to be linked to her camp.

The NRM leadership in Sironko, backed by UPDF, Uganda Police, and internal security agencies, enforced one of the most robust electoral frameworks in recent memory. Measures included:

  1. Credential-based access control
  2. Secret tagging of verified sub-county delegates
  3. Full presence of RPC, DPC, DISO, RDC, and NRM national supervisors

These actions rendered manipulation impossible, ensuring a clean, transparent process that reflected the people’s will.

The Day Sironko Spoke

At Mafudu Primary School, the designated polling venue, Hon. Nambozo’s arrival went unnoticed. She took a back seat in silence. Meanwhile, jubilant chants erupted as Chairman Mafabi Suleiman Lumolo, the people’s candidate, arrived to thunderous celebration.

In a moment of tension, Hon. Nambozo reportedly lashed out at the RDC and DISO, accusing them of betrayal. But the people had already spoken, loudly and clearly. As she left the venue, local residents jeered, yelling: “Go back to Karamoja!” and “Join FDC where you belong!”

The Radio Defense and the Truth

Hours later, Hon. Nambozo attempted damage control on a local radio station, blaming the electoral process for her defeat and alleging obstruction of her supporters. But no amount of on-air spin could obscure the reality: she had tried to circumvent party regulations by fronting non-delegates, and the system held firm against it.

Her critics argue that this attempt to rewrite events on air was an insult to the people who watched it unfold in broad daylight.

A Clear Message to Kampala

From Sironko to greater Bugisu, one message now echoes: Ugandans are awake. The time when leaders could lie without consequence is over. The grassroots will not be silenced, and they will not be tricked.

Hon. Florence Nambozo is being urged by the very people she claims to represent to stop misleading the nation, stop attacking institutions that uphold democracy, and accept that the people of Sironko have moved on.
