Ugandan cultural leaders knighted in the U.S. for promoting child welfare

Las Vegas, USA: Three Ugandan cultural leaders, His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma of the Bamasaaba, His Highness Papa Paul Sande Emolot of the Iteso, and His Highness Sebaruli Mwogezi Butamanya of the Baruuli, have been knighted in the United States of America for their outstanding roles in promoting and safeguarding the rights of children in their communities.

The recognition was conferred during a royal investiture ceremony held at the Gold Coast Hotel along Flamingo Road in Las Vegas. According to Mr. Steven Masiga, spokesperson of the Bamasaaba cultural institution, the trio received their knighthood on Monday under the auspices of We Care for Humanity (WCH), a U.S.-based philanthropic organization, in partnership with the Embassy of the Philippines.

The invitation to the ceremony was extended by Her Royal Highness Queen Mariam Leonor Torres Mastura, Chairperson of We Care for Humanity International, in recognition of the trio’s dedication to community empowerment and child welfare.

“Their Highnesses Jude Mike Mudoma, Papa Paul Sande, and Sebaruli Mwogezi Butamanya were formally knighted in Las Vegas for their contribution to protecting and promoting children’s rights in Uganda,” Masiga told DailyExpress.

His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma, the Umukuka III of the Bamasaaba, was accompanied by his spouse, Her Royal Highness Queen Annet Mudoma, and other equerries. The Bamasaaba institution’s envoy to the U.S. and Canada, Prof. Florence Wakoko, received the royal delegation on arrival.

While in the United States, Umukuka Mudoma also graced the Bamasaaba annual convention held in Oklahoma City, where he called for greater unity and collective action among the Bamasaaba diaspora.

During the knighthood ceremony, the three monarchs pledged to serve as champions of children’s rights across Uganda, advocating for the protection, education, and welfare of the country’s most vulnerable.

The international event was attended by dignitaries and cultural actors from India, the Philippines, the Arab world, and South America, affirming a global commitment to traditional leadership in addressing humanitarian challenges.
