Sironko, Uganda: Born and raised in the hilly terrains of Bumasifa Sub-county, Sironko District, Hon. Florence Nambozo Wamala has emerged as a symbol of resilience, faith, and transformative leadership.
Her upbringing in a devout Christian family under the guidance of her father, Mzee Petero Wamala, laid a strong foundation of humility, service, and discipline, values that would later define her political path.
As a young girl, Nambozo worked in family gardens and actively participated in church life, serving in the choir at Buhugu Cathedral, where her early leadership traits first surfaced. She later married Mr. Mayoga Henry, a civil servant and businessman also from Sironko, with whom she shares a commitment to community development and public service.
From Educator to Leader

Nambozo’s academic journey began in rural schools before she transitioned to more urban institutions, culminating in a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Kyambogo University in 2012. She taught in various schools, including the Aga Khan Education Centre in Kololo, gaining a reputation for her dedication to youth mentorship and educational equity.
Driven by a desire to influence governance, she advanced her academic qualifications by earning a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Management from Uganda Christian University (UCU) in 2023.
She is currently pursuing a PhD at UCU, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to academic excellence and public policy expertise.
Political Career

Nambozo first entered elective politics in 2013, vying for the Sironko District Woman MP seat while distributing educational materials to underprivileged schools. Though unsuccessful in that attempt, she returned in 2015, securing the seat on the NRM ticket, reclaiming ground previously held by the ruling party after Hon. Beatrice Wabudeya exited national politics.
In 2021, after losing the NRM primaries to Asha Nabulo, daughter of Hon. Suleiman Lumolo Mafabi, Nambozo defied party structures and contested as an independent candidate, winning a second term in Parliament and strengthening her grassroots base.
Her most notable milestone came in 2023 when she was appointed State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, succeeding Hon. Agnes Nandutu. The appointment, though unexpected by some, was hailed by supporters as validation of her unwavering loyalty, hard work, and growing political influence.
Champion for Girls and the Vulnerable

In Sironko and beyond, Hon. Nambozo is celebrated for her advocacy for girls’ education and support for vulnerable households. Through various outreach initiatives, she has distributed scholastic materials, funded school fees for disadvantaged children, and organized community-based mentorship sessions for young girls.
She continues to be a vocal proponent for education reform, access to services in rural areas, and empowerment programs targeting women and youth.
Looking Ahead: A Third Term Bid?
Currently seeking a third term in Parliament, Hon. Nambozo’s political star shows no signs of dimming. Her rise, from rural schoolteacher to Cabinet Minister, has inspired a new generation of female leaders in the Elgon sub-region, especially in Sironko, where her personal journey resonates deeply with many.
As Uganda prepares for another election cycle, Hon. Nambozo positions herself not only as a public servant but also as a symbol of tenacity, faith, and visionary leadership grounded in grassroots realities.
