Kampala, Uganda: The 2025 Buganda Masaza Cup will return to the iconic Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium for the first time in over a decade, with Kyaddondo County confirming the venue as their new home ground ahead of this year’s tournament.
The 2008 champions will host their matches at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo’s refurbished football arena, ending years of residence at the modest Hormisdallen playground in Gayaza, a move that underscores Kyaddondo’s ambition to mount a serious challenge for the title, which they painfully exited at the semifinals stage last year.
This historic return also revives memories of the 2013 final at Nakivubo, where Farouk Miya’s lone goal secured victory for Mawokota over Ssingo. The stadium, which has undergone a significant facelift, is now poised to host top-tier regional football action once again.
Draws, Groups, and Fixtures
Kyaddondo will compete in the Masengere Group, regarded as one of the toughest pools, alongside Mawokota, Buweekula, Bugerere, Buvuma, and Bulemeezi. Their semifinal finish in 2024, followed by a third-place playoff loss to Buweekula, remains a painful memory they are determined to overcome.
The 2025 Masaza Cup is set to kick off on June 21 at Kitovu Sports Arena, with a blockbuster opener featuring defending champions Buddu against record-holders Gomba. Buddu spearheads the Bulange Group, which also features Busujju, Buluuli, Busiro, and Ssese.
In the Muganzirwazza Group, former champions Ssingo, Kooki, and Mawogola will battle it out with Kyaggwe, Kabula, and Butambala in what promises to be another highly competitive cluster.
Buganda’s Minister for Youth, Sports, and Arts, Owek Robert Sserwanja, presided over Thursday’s official draw ceremony and urged all participants to uphold the core values of unity, discipline, and cultural pride that the Masaza Cup embodies.
Kyaddondo’s relocation to Nakivubo could prove decisive, offering them both modern facilities and a strategic home advantage as they chase a title that has eluded them for over 15 years.

Bulange Group, (Buddu, Busujju, Buluuli, Busiro, Gomba and Ssese)
Muganzirwazza Group (Kyaggwe, Ssingo, Kabula, Butambala, Kooki and Mawogola)
