Kamuli headteachers donate relief items to Balowoli School after dormitory fire

Kamuli, Uganda: Secondary school headteachers in Kamuli District under the Association of Secondary Schools of Uganda (ASSU) have donated scholastic materials to Balowoli Primary School following a tragic fire that gutted the boys’ dormitory and claimed the life of a pupil.

The fire, which broke out last week at the school in Balowoli Town Council, Kamuli District, led to the death of Primary Five pupil Ofambe Benard, who was later laid to rest in Kaliro District.

While handing over the donation on Wednesday, June 04, Mr. Kasadha Daniel, chairperson of ASSU Kamuli branch, appealed to well-wishers to join the effort to restore hope for the affected learners.

“This school still needs more support, so I call upon other stakeholders to come and give to these helpless pupils. We collected these materials from our friends and students to support the initiative,” Kasadha said.

The donated items included mattresses, pens, exercise books, and other essential learning materials.

Mr. Mwanga Ronald, the headteacher of Balowoli Primary School, expressed gratitude for the donation but noted that the school still faces significant challenges.

“We need more support because all the pupils’ materials were burnt to ashes. However, I would like to appreciate the association for giving us a helping hand,” he said.

Haji Siraji Mugoya, chairperson of the school’s Parents and Teachers Association (PTA), reassured the community that security measures have been enhanced to protect learners.

“Parents, please bring back the children because the school is now safer. We want to assure you that we shall provide more security to these learners,” he said.
