Kampala, Uganda: Engineer Jonard Asiimwe has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of NRM Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda on the Central Executive Committee (CEC), bringing clarity to recent speculation and igniting excitement within the party’s rank and file.
Eng. Asimwe confirmed his candidature after paying the mandatory nomination fees on Thursday, fulfilling most of the party’s eligibility requirements, and this positioning himself as a serious contender in the race for the party’s top leadership slot in the region.
Widely respected for his technocratic background and grassroots connection, Asimwe enters the CEC race with a proven record in public service, infrastructure development, education, and youth empowerment. His announcement has been welcomed by supporters as a milestone for the Western region and a boost to the ongoing renewal of the NRM’s leadership structures.
A Development-Oriented Visionary
Renowned for his work in Uganda’s oil and gas sector, Eng. Asimwe has been instrumental in projects that have generated over 15,000 direct and indirect jobs across the country. His leadership has opened up economic opportunities, especially in rural and underserved communities.
In the field of infrastructure, he has played a strategic role in major national upgrades, including road networks, stadium renovations, and airport improvements—initiatives that have strengthened service delivery and regional connectivity.
He is also a pioneer in technology-based youth education. Through the establishment of “Space Clubs” in schools, Eng. Asimwe has introduced thousands of students to digital innovation and space science, laying the foundation for a tech-savvy generation ready to take on future challenges.
A Champion of Education and Youth Empowerment
Beyond technical sectors, Eng. Asimwe has personally sponsored over 300 students in both secondary schools and universities, reflecting a strong personal commitment to education and human capital development. His leadership philosophy centres on compassion, practical impact, and servant leadership.
He has also organized capacity-building programs and ideological training for young leaders in institutions across the country, helping to nurture a new generation of patriotic cadres equipped with the skills and discipline to lead responsibly.
Sports as a Vehicle for Unity and National Pride
As a sports enthusiast, Eng. Asimwe has extended his influence into the realm of sports promotion. He is a major sponsor of several football clubs including Mbale Heroes FC, Kitara FC, Kiryandongo FC, Kampala Queens, and Booma FC. Through these partnerships, he has fostered youth engagement, community unity, and national identity.
His entrance into the NRM CEC race is being described by analysts as a strategic reinforcement of the party’s transformative agenda in Western Uganda.
The NRM CEC elections are expected to be held during the ruling party’s delegates conference at Namboole Stadium in August this year.
